In the last week, the message “keep pushing on” kept coming up everywhere around me. What does it mean when you keep pushing on? When the road to your goals of an unbound life becomes rocky, is that a warning that you’re going the wrong way or is it testing your resilience?
When it comes to the secrets of the universe and asking ambiguous questions, there usually are no hard-and-fast answers. However, you have the power to create the life we want through your thoughts and actions. That means that we can achieve whatever goals we set for ourselves, provided you are willing to give it your all and you “keep pushing on.”
I believe that by pushing on, you can move past subliminal self-imposed limitations and overcome obstacles that stand in the way of your success.
Keep Pushing on and Don’t Get Complacent
Setting goals hardly ever bring instant gratification. Most goals require consistency and hard work.
I just love the beautifully written lyrics to Pink Floyd’s song, Time, about the passage of time:
“Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it’s sinking,
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you’re older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines,
Hanging on in quiet desperation in the English way,
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I’d something more to say.”
DON’T DELAY!
If you have the desire and you are passionate about your goal, that will drive you to keep working. Obstacles and failures may slow you down, but you will only become more wise when things don’t go as planned.
Many people who have failed or faced huge obstacles have gone on to achieve massive success. Read this post to see how they did it.
Below I will share some tips to help you to keep pushing on when the going gets tough, whether it’s building your business, keeping to your fitness regime or any other area in your life.
1. Visualize
Sometimes it takes superhuman strength to keep on pushing towards your goals. Visualization is one of the most powerful techniques you can use to reach success.
Read my post about getting your body, mind, and spirit in sync and then read this post about how to visualize success.
2. Get Better, Learn More
Weaknesses put limitations on your abilities. What is needed for you to achieve your goals? Do you have what it takes? If not, you can develop your strengths and eliminate your weaknesses. No investment in your own self-improvement or education is ever wasted because you take it with you. Think about areas that require improvement and work on those.
3. Soak Up Inspiration From Others’ Successes
Unless you want to pioneer something, someone has probably succeeded at the reaching the goal you have in mind. Learn from them! Read their books, watch their movies, follow their blogs and subscribe to them on social media networks. Once you have learned what made them successful, fit those elements of success into your own path. Use their advice, but remain true to yourself.
4. Get Into Action
Find your passion, your driving force, and use that push you to do what is required to reach your goal. No matter what it takes, just start doing it!
5. Go a Step Further
Keep pushing on, past your personal limits and on to increasingly bigger, harder challenges. Unless you keep pushing bigger goals, you will remain within the confines of your comfort zone. If you want to move to the next level, you need to push past your own limitations.
Feeling resistance when you’re working towards your goals is tough. It hurts. It confuses. You have the choice to let go, if the hurt is more than the pay off of achieving your goals, or you can keep pushing on. Chances are, if you push on past your self-imposed limitations, you will find that it’s not so difficult after all and you will look back and be amazed at everything you’ve accomplished.
